Fall Project Work

September 3, 2019

While early spring is an ideal time to lay a fertile foundation for optimal landscaping, it is not the only time to ready your exteriors for the next growing season. Fall is an ideal time to reap, sow, feed, and prepare the earth to experience an impressive revival next spring. It can feel counter-intuitive to think about landscaping as the leaves turn and temperatures drop, however, giving all areas of your lawn attention in the fall can prove quite helpful. Nurney Landscape & Design is ready to help you with any remaining fall work.

Reseeding, overseeding, or laying sod are ideally done in the fall and can extend your lawn’s season. Mowing the newly seeded areas will further encourage a fall growth spurt. Soil maintenance is always important for landscape health. De-compacting by aeration will also make sure the soil can absorb and store maximum nutrients over the winter months.

Feeding your lawn in fall will repair any summer damage from heat, insects, and drought. You will mow less because there is no excess growth. Nurney can also help you prepare your beds with trimming and edging services so that you can enjoy the display in the spring. Cleaning up flower beds in the fall is much easier than fighting the wet weather and rapid growth season in spring.

Fall is the best time for planting most trees, shrubs, evergreens, grasses, and perennials, as long as you do it early enough for them to establish roots. Nurney can help inspect your landscape for any open spaces you may want to fill. This is the time to consider large or small landscape renovation projects such as designs to attract birds, new flowerbeds, or fresh seating areas. Need a splash of color early next spring? Fall is the time to plant an amazing array of spring bulbs like tulips and daffodils to make a fabulous statement come springtime.

Think you should only mulch in spring? Mulching helps your plantings retain moisture and it inhibits weeds. In particular for fall, mulch forms a protective barrier against the ravages of cold weather, killing frost, and it’s an especially good insulation for your perennial garden.
